An outdoor restaurant can seat guests through every season if three layers work together: a roof that opens or seals on command, glass or screen walls on the sides, and controls that run from one remote. Louvered pergolas (ACURA) and retractable fabric roofs (VISTA) cover the top, ORIZZONTE glass and VITO ZIP screens close the perimeter. This guide shows which combination fits which restaurant.

What does an outdoor restaurant need to dine outside year-round?
Three things: a roof you can open for the evening and close for rain, sides you can shut against wind and cold, and shade or privacy screens for the hours the sun is low.
Most restaurant patio enclosures fail because one layer is missing. A roof without sides still loses the room to wind. Glass without a roof still loses it to rain. We design all three as one package, so the roof, the walls and the screens share one frame color, one set of controls and one delivery.
Production takes 10–14 days, and a container to the US or Canada takes 28–32 days.
Which restaurant patio cover is better: louvered or retractable fabric?
Choose ACURA if you want a roof of aluminum louvers that seals shut. Choose VISTA if you want a fabric roof that folds away completely and spans a large area in one module.
| Feature | ACURA Q25 Premium (louvered) | ACURA Q27 Twist (louvered) | VISTA (retractable fabric roof) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Roof | 310 mm aluminum louvers | 185 mm aluminum louvers | Four-layer reinforced PVC fabric, fire resistant |
| How it opens | Louvers rotate 75° and slide, 85% of the roof opens | Each louver turns 90°, sealed by Differential Tech | Fabric folds back with a remote |
| Max single module | 9 000 × 4 000 mm (30 × 13 ft) | 7 000 × 4 000 mm (23 × 13 ft) | 12 000 × 12 000 mm (39 × 39 ft) |
| Load | Snow load 220 to 250 kg/m² (about 45 to 51 psf) | Snow load 220 to 250 kg/m² (about 45 to 51 psf) | 150 to 200 kg/m² (about 31 to 41 psf) |
| Wind | — | — | Up to 160 km/h (about 100 mph) with the roof closed |
| Drive | Somfy motor | Somfy motor | Somfy motor, remote, smart home ready |
| Lighting | Samsung LED in the beams, RGB option | Samsung LED in the beams | Samsung LED in the beams |
| Best for | Large terraces where guests want open sky | Watertight roof, frequent open and close | Wide spans, event terraces, courtyards |
Larger terraces are covered with several modules side by side, and the number of modules is not limited. Full specifications are on the ACURA and VISTA pages.
What is a restaurant canopy made of, and how does it behave in rain?
A fabric restaurant canopy on VISTA is a four-layer reinforced PVC cover, 900 g/m², fire resistant. The frame is pitched 6° to 8°, so rain runs off into the gutters.
The louvers on ACURA do the same job in aluminum. When they are closed, gaskets between the louvers and the gutters in the frame make the roof watertight. When they are open, warm air leaves and daylight comes in, so the space stays cooler than under a solid roof.

How do restaurant patio enclosures close the sides?
With glass, screens, or both. Glass stops wind and rain and keeps the view. Screens give shade and a softer edge on warm evenings.
| Feature | ORIZZONTE (frameless sliding glass) | ORIZZONTE THERMO (insulated sliding glass) | VITO ZIP (motorized zip screens) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Filling | Tempered glass, 10 mm | Double-glazed insulated unit | Screen fabric, Serge Ferrari |
| Holds heat | No, stops wind and rain | Yes | Shade and wind protection |
| Max panel size | 1 000 × 3 500 mm (3.3 × 11.5 ft) | 1 000 × 3 000 mm (3.3 × 10 ft) per leaf | Width 575 to 5 000 mm |
| Opening | One threshold of 20+ tracks, number of panels unlimited | Up to 11 000 mm long without posts (36 ft) | Vertical, by button or remote |
| Threshold | Low, 7 mm | Surface-mounted, with an insert the rollers run on | Side guides, zipper-lock edge |
| Wind | — | — | Up to 140 km/h (about 87 mph) |
| Best for | Seasonal patios, tall openings | Patios used in winter | Open sides in summer, shade |
Pick ORIZZONTE THERMO if guests will sit there in January. Pick ORIZZONTE for tall, wide fronts where the glass should disappear. Add VITO ZIP where you want shade without closing the view. The Serge Ferrari fabric blocks 97% of UV radiation, and with the screen fully down and the zipper edges closed, the sides also act as an insect barrier.
For restaurant fronts, the ACURA page also lists SKYLINE automatic guillotine glazing, a vertical motorized glass wall.
Restaurant patio ideas: which layout fits your site?
The layout depends on the building. Both roofs come in several mounting types:
- Wall-mounted. Fixed to the facade on one side, posts on the other. The usual choice for a terrace attached to the dining room.
- Freestanding. Four or more posts on a terrace, lawn or roof. Fits a patio away from the building.
- Suspended. Hung from the building structure where posts are in the way.
- Without posts. Mounted into an existing opening. VISTA also comes in gable and oval frames.

Why choose a retractable roof restaurant setup?
Because the same room works at lunch and at night, in sun and in rain. With a retractable roof restaurant owners get open sky when the weather is good and a closed ceiling when it is not, and the staff changes it with a remote, not a ladder. The Somfy drive also connects to smart home systems.
VISTA adds lighting, heaters, audio, fans and retractable TV screens on request. The Samsung LED lights sit inside the beams, so the structure needs no separate lamps.
A glazed veranda also runs longer: open verandas close by mid-September, while a glazed one can seat guests from March to the end of October, depending on the climate (SPAZIO frameless folding glass).
Pay attention when choosing a louvered restaurant roof
A roof over dining tables has to stay tight and clean. Two details show it fastest.
01 Sealing

Disadvantages of the structures
- Gaps that let rain through.
- Insects and dust in the dining area.
- Repair costs that surface later.

Quality standard ALUMINANTE
- Patented additional seals between the roof elements.
- Designed to last for decades.
02 Mechanism

Disadvantages of the structures
- A mechanism open to dirt and moisture.
- Exposed parts that risk a short circuit.

Quality standard ALUMINANTE
- A closed mechanism.
- No screws in the load-bearing elements.
What do real projects look like for budgeting?
These are completed projects from our Projects page. They are not all restaurants. Treat the numbers as a reference for a budget, not an offer. The exact figure comes from your drawings.
| Project | Size | Systems | Project price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Retractable roof 8 × 8 m with sliding glass | 8 000 × 8 000 mm (26 × 26 ft) | VISTA + ORIZZONTE | $19,000 |
| Freestanding louvered pergola with frameless glass walls | 6 000 × 4 000 mm (20 × 13 ft) | ACURA + ORIZZONTE | $24,000 |
| Louvered pergola, frameless sliding glass and zip screens | 6 000 × 4 000 mm (20 × 13 ft) | ACURA + ORIZZONTE + VITO ZIP | $26,000 |
| Louvered pergola 7 × 4 m, insulated sliding glass and zip screens | 7 000 × 4 000 mm (23 × 13 ft) | ACURA + ORIZZONTE THERMO + VITO ZIP | $50,000 |

Which enclosure fits your project?
Villa with a dining terrace
ACURA Q25 Premium with ORIZZONTE THERMO on the sides if the terrace must work in winter. Add VITO ZIP on the west side for evening sun.
Restaurant or hotel
VISTA for a wide dining area in one module, up to 12 000 × 12 000 mm. ACURA when you want a rigid roof that seals shut. ORIZZONTE THERMO on the sides for the cold months, VITO ZIP where the view and airflow matter more than insulation.
Contractor on a hospitality project
One supplier for roof, glass and screens. The parts are designed together and ship as one package, so there is no fitting three vendors' systems on site. We ship ready-made systems, or profiles only if you assemble locally. Installation depends on the site and is outside our supply.

FAQ
How big can one roof module be over a restaurant patio?
VISTA goes up to 12 000 × 12 000 mm in one module. ACURA Q25 Premium goes up to 9 000 × 4 000 mm and the Q27 models up to 7 000 × 4 000 mm. Larger areas are covered with several modules side by side.
Can a restaurant patio cover be waterproof?
Yes. The ACURA louvers seal against each other with gaskets when closed, and the VISTA fabric roof is waterproof and pitched 6° to 8° so rain runs into the gutters.
Can I add glass or screens to the same roof?
Yes. The sides of an ACURA pergola can be closed with VITO ZIP screens, SKYLINE guillotine glazing or ORIZZONTE sliding glass. VISTA takes the same systems, plus SPAZIO and ASPETTO glazing.
How long does delivery take to the US or Canada?
Production takes 10–14 days. The container to the US or Canada takes 28–32 days.
Which motors do you use?
Somfy on the pergolas and zip screens, with a handheld remote and smart home integration.
